Our teachers are the heart of Hinsdale Community Preschool! They foster a sense of community among our families, build strong relationships, and provide rich learning experiences for our students. Our teachers possess degrees in Early Childhood Education and many have obtained a Masters in Early Childhood Education. Our staff has longevity, as many teachers have been with our school for over 20 years!

Our teachers and administration participate in fifteen hours or more of professional development on an annual basis and all are certified in CPR and First Aid.

We consider the experience, talent and dedication of our teachers to be our greatest asset.

Director: Hinsdale Community Preschool employs a full time director who holds a B.S. in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education and Special Education with graduate work in Training and Development. She has over 30 years of Early Childhood Educational experience. Our director is a member of The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Meet Our Teaching Staff

Director: Ann Marie Berlino
Ms. Ann Marie has held the Director position at Hinsdale Community Preschool since June of 2008. She received her B.S. in Early Childhood Education, and Elementary Education from The College of New Jersey, Trenton, New Jersey and a B.S. in Special Education from The College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station, N.J. She has additional graduate course work in Training and Development from Montclair State College, Montclair, N.J.

Ms. Ann Marie taught kindergarten, second and third grade in New Jersey as well as Title One reading and math to kindergarten through six. Prior to coming to HCP, Ann Marie taught preschool blended age classes, as well as literacy enrichment classes, at Little Blessings Preschool in Naperville for nine years. Four of those years she was the Assistant Director of the preschool, as well as the Director of the Enrichment Program. She has over 30 years of Early Childhood Educational experience.

Ms. Wendy Carter (Just for Me Two Lead Teacher, Junior Class Lead Teacher and BookWorms Kindergarten Lead Teacher-Tuesdays, Food Manager) has over 17 years of experience in education. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University and her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Development from Concordia University. Ms. Wendy has 17 years of classroom and educational consulting experience. She has been a Lead Teacher in our Just for Me Two class and our Junior preschool class. Both of Ms. Wendy’s children have attended HCP! She also has been a past board President and is an HCP Advisory Board Member!

Ms. Cathy Hribar (Junior Class Teacher and BookWorms Preschool Lead Teacher) joined us in 2016 as Junior class teacher. She earned her Associate Degree in Early Childhood from Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, IL. Ms. Cathy has been a Lead teacher in our preschool BookWorms class as well as a teacher in our Kindergarten BookWorms in 2016 and 2017. Prior to joining HCP Ms. Cathy taught five year olds at Penny Lane Preschool in Oak Lawn and she was the lead teacher in the toddler classroom at the YMCA Child Development Center in Burr Ridge. Ms. Cathy has a good deal of knowledge of our NAEYC standards as both of her prior schools were also NAEYC accredited.

Ms. J. Renee Hyzy (Just for Me Two Teacher, Lead Teacher Discovery Math preschool enrichment, Lead Teacher Discovery STEAM preschool enrichment) Ms. Renee comes to us with a Bachelor degree from Southern Illinois University with a double major in Plant & Soil Science/General Agriculture and a minor in Botany. She has a Master’s of Human Resource Management from the Keller Graduate School of Management and is currently working on her Early Childhood Education Degree with certificates in Multicultural Teaching and Program Administration from the College of DuPage. Her most recent teaching experiences was as a Lead Pre-K Teacher at First United Methodist Preschool in Downers Grove.

Ms. Susan Kuhnert (Junior Class teacher, Teacher Preschool BookWorms, Lead Teacher LaPetite Master’s Art Preschool Enrichment Class) comes to us with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from North Central College with Early Childhood Certificate from The College of DuPage. Ms. Sue has been a teacher in our Junior class for the past 3 years and has been the Lead teacher in our LaPetite Master’s Art class. This is Ms. Sue’s fifth year teaching at HCP! She has over 30 years of early childhood teaching experience with her prior experience teaching at Little People Learning Center, Inc. in Downers Grove. Ms. Sue was also the Director/Teacher at Little Lambs Preschool at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bolingbrook, IL.

Ms. Kathy Lander (Senior Class Teacher, Discovery Kids Preschool Class Teacher, Discovery STEAM class teacher) has been a teacher in the Senior class for the past 4 years. She has also been a teacher in our Discovery America preschool enrichment class as well as our Discovery STEAM preschool enrichment class. Prior to that she was a Lead teacher in our Junior class. Ms. Kathy has been teaching at HCP for 32 years! She has over 30 years of experience in the early childhood field. Prior to joining HCP, Ms. Kathy taught at the Downers Grove Montessori School for 4 years. She was also a permanent substitute teacher at the College of DuPage Lab School. Ms. Kathy has an Associate of Applied Science in Child Development Degree.

Ms. Lynn Mayer (Just for Me Two Class teacher, HCP Registrar) This is Ms. Lynn’s fourth year teaching in the Just for Me Two class. She is also an Alumni Parent of HCP and has served as past Newsletter Chair, Secretary and Registrar! She has completed extensive work on HCP’s NAEYC Accreditation and is an active member of HCP’s Advisory Board. Ms. Lynn holds a Paraprofessional Education Endorsement (ELS-PARA) from the Illinois State Board of Education. She is an Educator for Food Allergy Safety In Schools where she educates staff and administration on food allergy safety for children. She has a B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Ms. Wendy Nickels (Senior Class Teacher and BookWorms Kindergarten Enrichment Lead Teacher) has been sharing her gifts with students at HCP for the past 12 years. She has also been the lead teacher in our BookWorms Kindergarten Wednesday enrichment class. Ms. Wendy has over twenty years of teaching experience in preschool and kindergarten in the Chicago land area. Wendy has a Bachelor’s Degree in both Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education from Illinois State University.

Ms. Sarah Plotnick-Anderson (Lead Teacher Senior class and Lead Teacher Discovery America preschool enrichment class) Ms. Sarah comes to us with a B.S. in Animal Sciences from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana and a Masters of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education/Language Arts from Northwestern University, Chicago. She also has her Elementary Education Teacher Certificate from the State of Illinois. Prior to coming back to HCP Ms. Sarah worked as a tutor at Huntington Learning Center. Sarah taught at HCP from 2009 – 2011 in our Junior as an Assistant Teacher as well as a Lead teacher for our enrichment classes. Prior to that she was a substitute teacher in the d181 school district. Sarah was instrumental in assisting HCP in gaining our NAEYC accreditation in 2010-2011.
